Be careful for what you wish for because you may just get it
The old band members of Juice wished for a new sound, a new style and a creative yet professional friendship amongst the musicians; and that is exactly what we have in our new group - Soul’d’Out. Our music is funky, smooth soul mixed in with tones of blues and groove. We have an extraordinary drummer/percussionist, Robin, who has composed and re-worked many of our covers. The bassist, Jean, has an ear for our special sound and his natural talent makes him a pivotal member who keeps us together and in the groove. Our keyboardist, Adrian, is the central energy blast and gives the music colour and beauty. Laurent, the guitarist, is a major element whose genius on the guitar has the crowds begging for more. And Anne, the singer, keeps the audience in the moment and makes you feel the music is played just for you.
Experience the performance, come to Soul’d’Out
Anne has been singing since the age of 14 in choirs and octets in school. Upon her arrival in Geneva she appeared in numerous musicals and Geneva Bands, notably Sandra-Dee in Grease, Little Theater of Geneva and the famous CERN group - Les Horribles Cernettes. From 1996 - 2000, she was the singer in the Trio Macnabb singing regular gigs over Swiss Romande and neighbouring France. In 2000, Juice was born and she sang with them at the Fetes de Geneve, Fetes de la Musique, Private Parties and Local bars and pubs. Now with Soul’d’Out she sings her favorite style of music and has found a new soul voice. She loves to move to the rhythm during concerts, dancing and bringing the audience to their feet, bringing joy and laughter to the show.
Robin has been playing the drums since the age of 12. Influenced by his two older brothers, he later did formal training in rhythmic music theory and teaches young drummers the art of "listening" to the other instruments. He has been a central part of many projects in pop, rock and jazz - of which he is particularly fond. His favourite quote from Miles Davis is: "Why play so many notes, while you just need to play the best!"
From the start, Jean was a pure self-taught bassist. Later, he got the chance to work together with Daniel Witt, a brilliant and demanding Bass Guitar Teacher. Jean played with many music groups with different styles: blues, rythm’n’blues, rock, jazz, funk, soul. From his debut with The Blue Rider in the early 90’s to the deep soul vibes of Côté Parc, playing with jazz groups and other big bands, he joined the newly created Juice in 2000. His central motivation is composition and arrangements, working together with Robin and Laurent. The sound and the overall harmony is his permanent quest. Jean has a particular love for soul music and generally for creating the groove. Soul’d’Out has a music style that is demanding in harmony and technique and this allows Jean to merge and focus his musical experience. But beware! we are talking about an ultimate groove machine, almost unstoppable, unless you pull the plug!
It was in High School that Laurent discovered the guitar. He played in several local bands before he travelled to be formally trained by prestigious guitar teachers like Romane, Eric Boell and Dereck Sébastien to name a few. After a stint in Spain for two years in a hard rock band, he returned to Gex where he has taught guitar since 1995 while continuing his parallel career as a professional musician. Whether electric or acoustic guitar, in styles as diverse as blues, rock, English or French pop, funk… his love of music and guitar is ever present.
